Six Flags Over Georgia Pictures

Apr 29, 2006

This time I have a weekend update for you - Six Flags Over Georgia Photos. 45 new pictures from the 2005 season. No this isn’t new Goliath stuff, this is “Goodbye to The Great Gasp” stuff. There’s a few panoramics in there, shots of the Canyon Blaster coaster (new to the site) and a bunch of other stuff mixed in. Take a look.

In addition I also added a new Great American Scream Machine Wallpaper for fans of the woodie that’s been giving rides down there in Georgia since 1973. If that’s your kind of thing, be sure not to miss it either.

So now I’m forced to look forward to 2006. Things have been nuts for us lately and this is as unorganized as we’ve ever been when it comes to future plans. Hopefully real life will slow down and let us hit some parks real soon. I’m still not looking at getting any new material until mid/late May, so in the meantime, I plan on updating some things with the site itself.

Lots of behind the scenes kind of stuff that no one will ever notice, but also lots of up front things too that you will notice. I’m rolling out a few changes and I’ll keep everyone informed as things are updated. I also noticed a bit of outdated info (park name changes, ride info) that needs brought up to date. I figure if I have a few weeks, why not get everything back up to perfection?

I do still have shots from a dreary fall day at Geauga Lake, but for right now, I’d rather focus on the site changes then get them up afterwards if there’s time. So keep an eye over the next few weeks as you never know what might pop up around here.

Roller Coaster Tattoo

Apr 24, 2006

You may have seen photos from coasterimage.com used in books, in magazines, in advertisements, borrowed by other websites, on official park websites and even at some of the amusement parks. It’s cool knowing someone finds your work to be of quality for such use and even though I may have become a bit jaded about it, it really is neat. But this past week the ultimate use of the photos on this site hit my inbox.

I got an email last fall from a gentleman generally praising the site and mentioning that he was using a couple shots from the site to make a stencil for a tattoo. Naturally this piqued my interest and I asked him to pass along a photo of the finished design. Then I kind of forgot about it…until this week.

Lo and behold, what do I find in my inbox. A pic of the tattoo! Truly hardcore stuff. The design is based on photos of Kennywood’s Jackrabbit and Hersheypark’s Great Bear. When someone thinks enough of what you do to use it as the basis for body art that will follow them for life - you just got to sit back and smile. Honestly, it was about the coolest thing in the world.

I definitely figured it was worth sharing because it’s a crazy coaster tattoo and because I was indirectly involved - check it out. That’s nuts! (and I’m a little jealous because I imagine myself crying like a girl at the sight of a tattoo gun closing in on my body) - ahem…

At any rate it’s great and I wanted to pass that along. Look for the new Six Flags Over Georgia photos to show up later in the week. After that I have some minor changes with the site to follow and then it should be just about time to get off and running on the 2006 season - even though I have this nagging feeling it’s going to be slower than usual. We’ll see, I guess.

So enjoy the tattoo, check back for new pics later in the week and we’ll go from there.

PNC Park Panoramic Picture

Apr 13, 2006

I’m just sitting here working on some minor updates to the site. Cleaning out files, making sure stuff is working, fixing some info that has changed about the rides and parks and such and figured I’d share a nice big panoramic shot I took at the Pirates game this evening. This site has always kind of crossed the line from amusement parks into other forms of entertainment (notably in the Special Features section) - so this kind of fits.

I didn’t take the big camera. In fact, I took the new little one. It fits nicely into a pocket and takes decent enough pictures. So check out the big shot of PNC Park I scored this evening as I watched the Pirates knock out 4 HR’s in a 9-5 win over the Dodgers. It was really a fun game - something sick like 26 hits between the two teams. Good times.

Also, the Kennywood update is still technically new so if you haven’t been by lately, be sure to keep reading below and check out the new stuff there.

That’s it I suppose. Just wanted to share and let you guys know I still plug away ‘behind the scenes’ to keep the site happening. I’ll have some new Six Flags Over Georgia photos up before the end of the month. Be sure to come by for a looksy.

New Kennywood Pictures

Apr 10, 2006

As a testament to my commitment to deliver updates as promised (or confirmation of my lack of priority) I bring this update in the midst of a week-long visit from the mother-in-law and just a day before my own birthday. But I’m cool like that. In the middle of all the confusion and activity I’m still able to hook you all up with 59 new photos from Kennywood. As usual, they’re just smattered about wherever they made the most sense so you may need to look around a bit to sort the new from the old. Not much new coaster stuff, but lots of other rides and of the park in general. Some pretty nice night shots in there too.

I also have a new Kennywood wallpaper available. This update marks the beginning of the new sizes available. They’re larger and in two different size ratios now, so no matter what screen resolution you’re using, one of the two should fit and look relatively nice. If you aren’t running at the exact resolution of the images (1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768) mess with the options in Windows (or your OS of choice) - you might prefer cenetering it or stretching it or tiling it. Play around and see. I have a feeling these sizes will cover everyone quite nicely. If you happen to be using some alternate screen resolution and can’t get thing to look sufficient, drop me a line. If I get enough requests for a certain size, I’ll probably incorporate it in the future.

I know the 2006 season has started for many of you. Hopefully your travels are going well. We’re more disorganized this year than any year in the past, so nothing is set in stone yet and with a lot going on personally, we probably won’t even make our first trip of the year until sometime next month. I still have a few more 2005 photos to clear out (man, I really slacked this winter) and then we’ll see what happens.

Stay tight
