More DVD Goodness
With the overwhelming positive response I always get with the free DVD downloads, I decided to try to up the ante a little. Last week I made 2008’s videos available in DVD form as an easy “Do It Yourself” download. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and the response has always been outstanding. As many of you know, last year’s 2006/2007 DVD ended up being too large for me to offer for download. That’s always eaten at me. I did offer a ‘lite’ version of the DVD for download and then offered a ‘full’ version as a physical disc for a small fee. (at cost, really) But that never sat right with me either. I’ve decided to give something new a try here – BitTorrent.
Most of you probably know what BitTorrent is. If you don’t, in a nutshell, it’s a way of sharing large files peer-to-peer (P2P). Basically we all download and upload the files with each other. (see wikipedia)
Quite frankly there’s no reason it won’t work. In fact, it should work much better (and faster) in the long run than just trying to serve files myself. So let’s try a little experiment, ok?
I’m offering the full version of the 2006/2007 DVD (yes, the one that’s $5 and not available for download) for free…as a download…right now. All you have to do is get yourself a BitTorrent client and click RIGHT HERE and you’re downloading a free copy of the full version of the 2006/2007 DVD…and helping distribute it as well, so be sure to stay online and share with others. (if you already use BitTorrent then just click the link – you know the drill)

If this goes well (and be sure to drop me a line and let me know how it goes) then this would be an awesome way to share in the future. Each year the DVD could be really big (like the 2006/2007 disc) and stay free of charge. And remember how I mentioned that we’ve officially gone HD for 2009? Well, HD files are pretty big too.
I think you see where I’m going with this.
