| SYNOPSIS |
I grew up in western Pennsylvania - closer to Kennywood
than Conneaut and Kennywood was indeed my "home park". As a kid
we thought of Kennywood as that "little" park down the road. We
thought of Conneaut Lake as the "even littler" park up the road.
I'd been to Conneaut Lake Park twice in my life: Once in 1982 as
a kid with my parents and then again in 1991 to see a Cheap Trick/Quiet
Riot show (that makes me sound really lame, but please know we understood
the irony in seeing these bands) which directly resulted in my eventually
meeting my wife. That's a pretty odd mishmosh of memories to have
about a park. I finally made my third visit in 2003 and being older
and wiser realized what a great small park this really is. There's
a certain "charm" to smaller parks and Conneaut is just oozing with
it. We also stopped by in 2004 & 2005. However, Conneaut is
always just hanging on as the park has had some highly publicized
money issues. The best way to help keep great places like this alive
is to get out there and visit! It'd truly be a shame to lose a park
like Conneaut Lake so if you're ever in western PA, be sure to stop
by - even if just for a short visit. You'll love the rides and help
keep a great part of amusement park history alive for everyone to
enjoy. |
