Lakemont Park is among the oldest operating amusement
parks in the world today. They even have the world's oldest operating
roller coaster in Leap The Dips. A park with so much sustained history
should deliver a certain kind of experience and Lakemont does that
without fail. The park is nothing flashy and it doesn't need to
be. In addition to the world's oldest operating coaster, the offer
Skyliner - a wooden coaster which just seems to get better with
every lap. There are also two other coasters and a collection of
older flat rides, some of which aren't seen too often in permanent
installations. The park itself sits right beside Blair County Ballpark
(home of the Altoona Curve - the AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh
Pirates), so you just might be lucky enough to take in a ballgame
after you're done at the park...and if you do, be sure to enjoy
that view of the Skyliner coaster looming just over the right field
wall. Amazing. |
