I'm
not sure Steel Force gets the credit it deserves. It really is a
solid ride. There's nothing outstanding about it anymore, but every
piece is solid. A 205 foot drop into a tunnel, some big hills, the
helix turnaround, the series of airtime hills to return to the station
- all the pieces are there and all do exactly what they were intended
to.
I have to admit to having a special fondness for Steel Force
(and Dorney Park in general) after living so close for two years.
It really was the only highlight in an otherwise generally sucky
place to live (sorry Allentown, it's true). On top of that Steel
Force was my daughter's 50th coaster and her first hyper. Being
less than 5 miles from the park, we were able to visit often and
many times that meant being there on particularly empty nights.
Dorney always seems to run 2 trains on their coasters regardless
of the crowds. I have good memories of warm summer nights just power
riding Steel Force with my 5 year old. Getting off, checking our
on ride photo for silly faces and hurrying back around to do it
again...and again, and again. Sometimes personal things can make
you enjoy a ride more than you really should and perhaps this is
my case, but I certainly feel Steel Force is one of the more underrated
rides these days and I hope this video shows off the coaster a bit.
It deserves it.
