On
a cold April day we made our way to Six Flags Great Adventure to
check out the debut of Superman: Ultimate Flight. We had been on
the same ride at Six Flags Over Georgia six months earlier and wanted
to see how New Jersey's stacked up.
The day before we had visited
Six Flags America and saw temperatures hanging in the high 80's.
A few hours north and 24 hours later and things had changed. The
temperature hung in the low 40's all day and the winds were ridiculously
high. God only knows exactly what the wind chill was that day. The
plus side was that crowds were low the entire day and rerides without
even getting off of the coasters were plentiful, the negative side
was that...well it was f'n cold! You'll see in the video that riders
are wearing heavy coats, scarfs and gloves - all the winter essentials.
I stuck out the wind and cold while the rest of the gang stayed
toasty inside Nathan's munching hot dogs and snagged the footage
for this video clip. If there are any shaky parts, it's either the
wind or my shivering.
One thing to notice is just how slow the ride
appears to be running in the cold. It almost seems silly slow. In
the end I found the ride to be as enjoyable as I'd expect a flying
coaster to be, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the one in
Georgia seemed more intense somehow. Maybe it was the slow, cold
conditions or maybe it was just me, but I'd give the slight nod
to Georgia on this one. (Sorry Jersey, you know I love you!) All
in all it's a pretty cool video that shows exactly what the ride
does and that alone makes it a worthwhile download. Enjoy!
